While we welcome members of all levels, we STRONGLY advocate staying away from skin until you've received formal training from someone who works in the field. Hell, even hair stylists must complete over a year of courses, pass a state health board exam, and apprentice under a professional studio before earning a chair.
The trade of tattooing has a rich history and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. If you respect the art, please show your respects by learning the right way.

No not enough pressure but dot matrix are cool because they are used to make triple copies on forms

If you're talking about an ink jet or laser jet printer it'll just spray the ink onto the tracing paper & not have any effect on the carbon paper.
What you can do however is increase the contrast on your image so that you have some distinct lines/shadow & print it onto ordinary paper. Then place the printout over the thermofax paper & trace around the outlines with a pencil. That way it gives you a real good stencil & an idea of the length of lines you'll be doing with your tattoo as well. -------------------- "In this truck is a man whose latent genius, if unleashed, would rock the nation, whose dynamic energy would overpower those around him. what if you use wax paper , cut it to the normal 8 by 11 size and print on that,, wouldnt the ink just be on the surface and not bond with the paper..? its an idea i've been thinking of ...

It might get caught in your printer and if the ink doesn't dry on the wax then it will mess up the printing heads.

take out the middle sheet so you have got just the carbon and tracing paper
put a bit of sello tape on each edge so it doesnt fold in the printer the simply print your outline if it comes out to dark or with lines then adjust the print head away from the roller. you dont even need to have a print ribbon installed works great for me |

If you have Paint Shop Pro i get my greylines this way
If you use Paint Shop Pro: 1. Load your colored Flash into the program by clicking on the folder option (top left of screen, 2nd icon from left) “OPEN FOLDER”. Select your flash from disc or the folder you have it saved in. Once flash is displayed do the following: \/ Click the 4th dropdown menu from the top left of screen which is “IMAGE” then go down & select “SPLIT CHANNEL” then “SPLIT to CMYK”, this will create 4 windows. The last one being a black page with grey outlines. \/ Now click on “EDIT” (2nd from left at top of page), then click “REPEAT SPLIT to CMYK” this will create more windows. The last one being your “LINE DRAWING”. While this window is selected, you can save it to disk, CONVERTING BLACK TRIBLE TO LINE DRAWINGS Load Tribal Flash into program as you did with the colored flash. Once the tribal is on screen do the following. \/ Select “EFFECTS” from the drop down menus (5th from left at top of screen) Now select “EDGE EFFECTS” and then select “TRACE CONTOUR”. This will instantly give you your line drawings for the Tribal flash. Once again save the end result to disk. SOMETIMES DEPENDING ON THE STRENGTH OF THE DESIGNS, THE OUTLINE CAN BE A LITTLE TOO LIGHT IF THIS IS THE CASE. DO THE FOLLOWING: \/ Select “EFFECTS” once again. Then select “ART MEDIA EFFECTS” and then select “PENCIL”. A window will open where you will be able to see the before & after effects. In the 4 parameter boxes, change the values as follows. \/ LUMINANCE = -30 BLUR = 1 INTENSITY = 100 COLOUR = Right click with the mouse AND THEN LEFT CLICK AND SELECT THE “white” COLOR. Now click “OK” \/ If you want to make the lines darker do the following: Select “EDIT” then select “REPEAT PENCIL”. You can repeat the above step as many times as you like, until you are satisfied with the intensity of the lines -------------------- When the designs are chosen with care, tattoos have a power and magic all their own. There are a few different ways to do this, i do the following: (Photoshop)
Greyscale to lose the colour, then i use the wand to select a black line, select similar to get all the rest of the black, then cut and paste to new layer, hiding old layer. then adjust brightness and contrast to get very dark lines before printing. works a treat on anything with black lines, for tribals i do this: select the black, select similar, then hit a new layer and stroke the selection with black, pixel thickness depends on the resolution of the original. hide the original layer and print.
