Ink Trails Tattoo Forum _ Art Class _ Ink-trails Sketchbook Pre-order Question

Posted by: The Nerd Nov 3 2009, 01:40 PM

... alright so i looked up prices for this and most places have a min of about 500 books at $2,000 and i just dont have $2000 and i just dont have that .. so my mother owns a company and they go thru staples for thier stuff .. so i got a quote on the following

40 books

the book @ 30 pages
front cover and back cover 100 lb paper full color
all other pages 80lb paper black n white ...

spiral bound

he qouted me at about $8 per book

im expecting more than 30 pages so im going to say $10 per book, so i need to check what my paypal fees are going to be because im going to need to upgrade my account and all this so lets say these will go for about $15 per book plus shipping not bad from what i thought it was going to be

again this is no final price but i wanna see who all is intrested so i know about how many books i wanna get orderd ...

so if your up to pay lets say $20 including shipping inside the US and im assumeing like $25 outside who would be picking 1 of these up?

Posted by: ink-sink Nov 3 2009, 01:52 PM

me :-)

$25 shipped outside the US sounds good to me. I do like a good sketch book! cool.gif

Posted by: amybird Nov 3 2009, 02:19 PM

(Fine with the price though smile.gif )

Posted by: natebot Nov 3 2009, 02:26 PM

Eye.

All other pages in black and white does suck a bit, although probably more so for others than me, so I'm not crying about it. I do understand though....$$$$$$$

I'm down.

Posted by: SkynYard Apprentice Nov 3 2009, 02:37 PM

That's what I thought when I heard all the talk about colour, only really the big expensive production numbers, like Boog-From The Streets. The nature of a sketchbook is that generally it's initial sketches, rather than finished artworks and so naturally that often means just monochrome, not even through economic necessity but just thru what it's representing.

Not trying to sway the vote, but my design doesn't even mean you need a colour cover, thus bringing costs down even further. I had this in mind when I conceived it, as well as the fact that it suited the style laugh.gif laugh.gif .

Posted by: amybird Nov 4 2009, 12:30 AM

I kinda knew about the black and white thing too, but was just kinda hopefully keeping my fingers crossed for colour, coz it's pretty tongue.gif The ridiculous bright pink and green design I just did will probably be less of an eyesore now anyway haha.

So front and back both full colour - what's gonna go on the back? The runner up maybe? Will it be both sides of the front and back page that can have colour images on?

Posted by: Teo Nov 4 2009, 01:46 AM

count me in !

Posted by: The Nerd Nov 4 2009, 02:21 PM

well this is what im thinking about that i want front cover to be the winne of course then inside the front cover i would most likley have the runner up taking half the page and the other half an intro type thing ... and for the back cover im liking barnstormers as an outro to the book as the book itself is now leaving room for people to expand and create with these designs and move into tattoos as shown in his illistration so i see his as a outro IF HE DOSE NOT WIN OF COURSE

... those were just my thoughts ...

anymore? this dose mean ur obligated to buy the book i just want a general idea of how many would b intrsted so i can order accordingly ...

Posted by: The Nerd Nov 4 2009, 02:26 PM

I had a look through Chikken's website again yesterday. Man, she is such a talent. Ridiculous skills. Ridiculous. It will be a joy to see some of her sketches in there.

Posted by: gloworm666 Nov 4 2009, 08:17 PM

I'll definitely buy one

Posted by: jay1 Nov 4 2009, 11:50 PM

im in, definately and if you managed to get the whole book in colour (as i know some people sketch in blue pencil which looks cool in a sketchbook) i wouldn't mind paying up to £25 (about $50) for it. (though that's just me and will also be pefectly happy with blak and white tongue.gif ).

I'm so far out of my league.... eek!

Not sure if this is a good idea or not, and there are probably better/cheaper websites than the one I'm linking, but if you did feel that it would be nice to print this in colour, or maybe subsequent issues if this becomes a regular thing, what about uploading the images to a site like http://www.photobox.co.uk/shop/photo-books/classic-cover-photobook, which is essentially an online domestic photo printing service, then anyone who wants a book can order just the one for themselves, individually from the site. The cost per item is still within what people seem prepared to pay, and there isn't the disadvantage of huge initial costs for printing in bulk, which seems to be the main reason for not going with colour. You could order one item, or even a set of small prints, ahead of time just to double check quality and colour accuracy etc.

As I said, there are probably similar/better/cheaper sites, but the principle of uploading the images to an online account/album, making the album available publicly and letting people take care of their own orders seems quite good. Also, it would save a whole load of admin at your end.

EDIT: Arse. Just realised that means the money is going in the wrong place. Meh.

Posted by: The Nerd Nov 5 2009, 06:14 AM

yeah im thinking of that the only thing is these places no matter where cost an arm and a leg ... each person would be paying like $30-40 per book plus shipping ...

here i can get the books for about $10 per plus my costs here n shipping it would run $20 per book shipped or so .... so again im running through my options i cant have a final price or answer on what actual price will be until i have the book made, pages where they need to be and can have an accurate amount of pages ...

people who have not started submitting ur entries please do start that when possible ... if u have 3 done and still working on some send me the 3 so i can start putting this together ....

rememebr include in the email your full name, username and website ( if u wantt it in the book )

thanx again to everyone for the support .. entries and suggestions reguarding this thing ...

Well that looks like I can count myself out from a win then laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif If the man holding one of 3 votes wants me on the back cover and I'm trailing behind in the members poll laugh.gif

...don't worry I figured as much when I saw Amybird and Joe's submissions and that was before I even started my finished version, at least their's inspired me to pull out all the stops on the cross hatching front biggrin.gif .

Posted by: The Nerd Nov 5 2009, 09:53 AM
