Looks good man,
some of those sites, particularly the
builders forums, you need to prove
professional credentials.
Thanx though, it's a great list.

I know a guy in a metal fabrication factory
near my work, I asked him about getting a frame or two
made, he just needs some dimensions. I can measure mine
& draw up a template, but they're chinese frames & I won't
rely on that for my first effort at playing around with building.
Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a quality, precise
template or diagram with measurements of the main dimensions.
From the front binding post hole to the spring shelf,
tube hole to the coil holes & rear post hole,
spring shelf to coil deck. These basic measurements and more
will be essential I assume.
Dunno if I have the terms correct, but you might know what I mean :D

This template for a bent frame
has been kicking around here
for a while. You should be able
to extrapolate the measurements
to use for a cast or welded frame....

i have templates for about ten different machines. i moved to a different town and now i don't really have the tools to machine them. i will find my templates and post them.

that template is very simmilar to mine in how mesurements were taken and drawn out, except i have measurements for the drilled holes. great minds think alike...lol

these are a few one piece bent frame with guillotine clamp templates. i guess you could make it in two pieces and weld it if that would be easier. i can't wait to bulid one of these.

the templates that you posted, is that the actual size? can i just print it out and transfer it on a metal sheet, cut it out and bend it?

Put them up on photobucket and post the link.

I don't mean to be rude, or speak out of turn but I'm going to anyway:

No.1 - The diagram that you have posted is mostly useless and barely passes as a workable schematic. It is indeed very basic - at best. Several key elements that make it a workable machine frame; which are imperative to correct frame geometry, are missing? I like to tinker, but I keep my builds to myself. Not only do I feel that they are not worth sharing, but they are purely to assist me in establishing a better working knowledge of what goes where, and why! with regards to frame geometry

copying the basic dimensions off of one (probably cheap, chinese, shite) machine does not a good runner make! especially if you don't know how to use it, which brings me swiftly onto point number 2!

No.2 - if the tattooing on your flickr account is recent work of yours for the love of god stop! stop tattooing people now!! stop concerning yourself with how to build machines and get right back to basics, starting on paper.... then on some fruit, then some pig skin, then maybe after a year or several of practice see where you are at because you sir are taking the piss!!

I grabbed this image off of your flickr account to share with those who might not bother having a look

And this atrocity is on somebodies neck!

If this is put in by you, then you should be truly ashamed of yourself!

pretty sure posting someone's artwork, tattoo work, etc., without their permission isn't allowed.

That very well may be the case, and if it is then I apologise for doing so and, if it is indeed against the rules ask for the image to be removed (my bad)

however, in my mind if you post a link to your a website/flickr account/facebook account etc and that in turn is part of a publicly displayed profile or photo album I have hardly invaded anybodies privacy, have I?

I just find it hard to take seriously anything from somebody who thinks that doing that to somebodies neck is acceptable!

There are one or two moderators, and a couple of long serving members of the forums who would say much much worse than I did, all I did was draw attention to this individual as somebody that should maybe keep there opinions (and their ink) to themselves - there is an old saying round these parts - no it all knows nothing!

*Moderators - If I was out of line by posting that horrendous image, please feel free to remove it and again I apologise for breaching any site rules

erm, yes :D

If it against forum rules to post images or links to images without their consent, then I apologise for doing so and won't allow it to happen again

that, is called an apology (the "I apologise" bit kind of gives it away? doesn't it?)

What else would you like me to do?
