This is in connection with the couple of threads voicing people's concerns about premature tattooing.

Should there be a topic specifically for posting artwork which is due to be tattooed?

It would reduce the chance of poor work being accidentally overlooked before it's too late.

It would give the artist a chance to make sure they really are giving their client the best possible design, with the help of fresh eyes to see overlooked faults.

It would enable the forum to compare the proposed piece to the tattooist's previous work and assess whether the project is disproportionate to their current ability level.

agreed ... maybe a sub section in the art class forum .. ( i would say woodshed but really people are generally not looking in the woodshed as much )

i know i would def be posting a lot or pre tattoo art if possible in that section ...

man you guys just want to make a section for everything, theres already 2 art sections i dont see the need for a third.

The dumber people think you are, the more surprised they're going to be when you kill them.

to be honest anybody wanting to post a pre tattoo piece can do so in the art section i don't think a seperate section is going to encourage posting pre tattoo designs.

It was more to avoid them being overlooked, or to draw extra attention to them, to try to help.

I've always seen the Woodshed as a place to post where you look for less "hey, nice job man" and more, "this is fucked up, and this is what you could do to fix it". There have been a bunch of times where I thought my work was pretty cool, but was able to be shown where it was jacked up, and was able to improve on the design much more than I originally thought. People post less in the Woodshed, because it's where to go to get a beating. That's hard to take sometimes. I guarantee you, if the thread is posted in the Woodshed, and it's titled, "Future Tattoo" or something, it'll get torn up constructively enough to where the poster can learn. So long as they listen with humility and remember that not all critiques need to be followed. Just digested and considered.

I'll bring the thread to the attention of the Mods, and we can look at what the forum thinks. I don't care either way. :D

i can see where ur coming from but i think that adding another sub forum will just mean another place to have to read through which will lead to more things getting over looked. besides alot of the poorer tattoo's being done are from people who wouldn't post the art up for critique anyway they just jump to skin thinking it looks good, where'as the ones who take it more seriously already post their work for critique before going to skin.

maybe we could have it on a trial run or something and see if the quality of work being put out improves?

As long as the critique given on the pieces isn't along the lines of "what the fuck don't even think of going to skin ever ur shit", and more helpful and pointing out what is wrong with a piece and how it could be improved.

kinda like how nerd explained his way of critique in slow the f*** down:

quote; i dont wanna run people off the foorum by just saying " u suck, cut off your hands and die" but i think a good " thats a hoorrible tattoo ur lines are crooked and ur art needs real improvment" def is a ok think to say when needed.

i mean i have a few designs drawn up but no not to ink them yet as they are not ready but am worried they will get ripped to shit without any helpful advice if i post them, so maybe it would be a good idea.

BUT as i say i could simply put it in the art section for critique.

Yeh that's a point about how another section could potentially lead to something being overlooked. And also ofcourse, people who are blind to their own shitness won't think to post for critique in the first place. Hmm.

Do you think that people sometimes don't post in the Woodshed because it feels presumptuous? Like they'd be assuming they're in a higher league or something?

I know I've held off posting in the woodshed for that reason amy. Maybe I just read into it wrong when it first came up.

I don't think i'd have any qualms posting there now I get it. I'd have to have more than 5 minutes to do some bloody art though :D

i think this section could be a benifit ... i dont post in the woodshed because its for paid members only and i know we have a few that havent gotten thier subscriptions yet that ide like to hear an opinion from aswell ...

anyways i just think a sub forum couldnt hurt but again its up to the mods and JJ

Jay1 - i def feel that way like i said, if someone actually takes the time to post the art in a section for crit they will not get that hard of a crit from me even if that tattoo is the most shit tattoo ive ever seen ...

i think thiers people who can take my crit and people that cant .... fortunatly im happy to say the main contributers to the forum know me and why i say these things and are greatfull for the crit they get reguardless not only from me but a few of the other hard heads here aswell

anyways back to topic .. the sub forum couldnt hurt and it dose bring some extra attention to the artwork aswell ...

When I first read this thread I thought "Fucking great! Another forum to Mod!!"...
On reflection (and as a result of some truly shitty artwork ending up on peoples
skin..) I can see the sense in this. I think it should be a sub-forum in Art Class,
where the worst offenders are likely to post. People posting in The Woodshed are
already prepared for a no holds barred critique anyway.... I'd call it something
like I'm Planning To Put This On Skin.. My 2 cents, take it or leave it...
We are all laying in the gutter but some of us are looking for spare change...

Thats actually a good name for it lol.

The section isn't a bad idea though,
would avoid alot of FUps to be honest.
