THIS IS A SITE FOR ARTISTS, NOT CLIENTS (Please read before posting)   04/18/2018

I'm seeing a lot more questions from people who are looking to get tattoos, asking about ideas, healing instructions, etc. These are questions you should ask YOUR  LOCAL TATTOO ARTIST, not random people on the internet. This site is specifically for tattoo artists and those looking to get into the trade by way of an apprenticeship. Don't be shy! Google local artists and drop by a shop or two, check out their portfolio of work and talk about your ideas with a professional who can help you achieve the best tattoo experience.

       Thanks for reading!

  1. Will lines collide?

Hello, I got a tattoo like a month ago and I am curious if the open skin between the mouth and paw will stay open or if the lines will collide. I cared good for my tattoo and keep him out of the sun. http://prntscr.com/jkw9mx Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi, I have a question about my fairly new tattoos (4-5 weeks). I am on vacation now and I want to protect my tattoos from the sun ofcourse, so I use SPF 50 sunmilk. My question is, does it matter what kind of protection you use (e.g. sunscreen, sunmilk etc.). And does the brand matter? Thanks in advance!
  3. Hello, I got this tattoo back in January and it’s still shiny and cracked looking. I’ve been applying Lubriderm a few times throughout the day. Is this a normal part of the healing process or have I messed up the tattoo in some way? Is there anything I can do to fix the shininess or should I just let it be? Thanks.
  4. Hello, Im just wondering what you guys think. I got a new tattoo 17 days ago and the bits the artist went over and over to get really black still haven't healed fully and the bits that have healed are obvious raised scars that have not settled black. I have looked after my tattoo exactly how my artist said and it did not get infected. Is there anything that can be done? Can the scars be tattooed over to make it look normal? Thanks for your help in advance.
  5. I just got a new tattoo yesterday and I've had this idea for a whole year. Finally decided to get it: its the melody of this song that holds a lot of significance to me. I'm not sure if its because I don't like the way the music notes look or something else, but I cant seem to like it. Is it because it's a little plain? Or too large? Or the spacing is off? Any ideas on what it might be thats bothering me or any suggestions on how to "fix" or add to it? a pic:
  6. Realism

Hi dudes & dudettes im Looking for a realism tattooist to work in our studio in york, North Yorkshire any help ? Thanks
  7. Hello! To start off, I’m very new in this field. I don’t know too much about tattooing, but I am slowly learning. I was told to purchase a decent tattoo machine, but I’m not sure which types or brands are best for beginners? The tattoo artist I have an apprenticeship with recommended “Cheyenne Thunder”, but I also want to get other artist’s opinions.
  8. I made a stick and poke tattoo and was planning on getting it professionally removed or covered up with a better one. Its on my upper thigh, it's supposed to be tree leaves. I wanted to know what people think of it as it is. I might not be able to get it fixed and just want to know if it's not as bad as I think it is or if it is bad. Thank you for reading and please be nice.
  9. How’s it going brothers? I’ve been wanting to ask this question for a long time so here goes. I have around eight pieces on my left arm, and am contemplating keeping my right arm clean. However I am running out of space on my left arm and don’t want any on my front and back. I was thinking of placing only fine line tats on my right arm if I really have too. Although I am a tattoo enthusiast, I also am modeling and so my body is basically my brand, in a way, specifically as I plan on modeling full time soon. I want a distinct look, the image I’m going for is half preppy-half tough guy. I am quite thin, lean, but have broad shoulders. Fair skin. I believe in utilizing the spaces in between pieces, or our ‘clean skin’ to add to the aesthetic of a tattooed body. I been mulling over which ‘style’ to carry: Either- 1) one usual sleeve, right arm fine line sleeve, the tattoos sporadically scattered for the fine line sleeve 2) one usual sleeve, right arm having the usual tats covering the fore arm, upper arm fine line 3) one usual sleeve, right arm with usual tats covering the forearm and upper inner arm, leaving fine line tats segregated to the outer upper forearm. What are your opinions?
  10. Hi, I’m new here, but idk where I should be posting this so I apologize in advance. I get these little bumps all over my old fully healed tattoo every now and again, some look like little pimples and are red, others just look bumpy, I was just curious if this is something I should be worried about or not? I never really thought much into it cause I have a few tats and it happens with a couple of em. Here’s a picture - http://prntscr.com/i8eyi5
  11. So just over a year ago I got a tattoo on my bicep area. I made a mistake and didn't fully research the artist beforehand but I did research the shop and they had pretty much all 5/5 reviews. Anyway, i asked for a throne with roses around it and showed them the style i wanted, they recommended me Jordan and we booked it. A few weeks later I come in to get it done. First red flag, he forgot to put the roses around it and he added all these weird lines through the throne design. He apologised and I agreed to let him freehand the roses and for some reason I didnt say anything about the lines (my fault but i didnt want to be insulting). Then came placement, i said i wasnt sure where but i wanted it on my arm and asked him where he thought it would sit nicely. The placement was awful but i didnt notice until it was finished. Second red flag- it took 5 hours for a 2 hour tattoo. Third red flag i didnt find out he was a junior/apprentice? Until 1/3 into the tattoo. Anyhow i hated the tattoo but tried to convince myself i just needed to get rid. 1 year later i still hate it, the lines and shading are chunky, blurry and raised and now something even worse has happened. Out of nowhere the tattoo has become extremely lumpy and raised. I dont know why or what to do. Someone help please!

  14. Help me!!!! Apprenticeship

What is everyone's experience on training? I have been a tattoo apprentice for 2 and a half months and am unsure on what's normal and not. My boss has got a tattoo appointment lined up for me at the end of this week. He said he will be leaving me COMPLETELY by myself and if I don't do a good job, I am out. I feel this is unsafe as I have only tattoed on silicone under his supervision a handful of times. This will be my second ever tattoo on skin. I do get to watch him for roughly 30 mins a day, but I get so much pressure put on me with designs, deadlines and stencils, I don't get to watch or practice enough. I tattoo at home on fake skin and research but I feel there is only so much I can do by myself. I am on £3 odd an hour, I do all the designs, cleaning the shop, reception work (all of which I expected to do). I have invested in good tattoo guns/ equipment also. What is everyone's thoughts?
  15. Hey guys, I'm so confused about getting a shoulder tattoo because I need it to be so meaningful as if I carry it out on my shoulder, so I've been thinking to get flower of life with the metatron's cube defined but a lot of artists said it's too symmetrical to be drawn on the shoulder so it might not be as accurate and literally I can't find anything better or meaningful to put it on my shoulder. And yeah I'm not a big fan of having a patch black thing over my skin I want the tattoo to be outlined, shaded, or dotted, no coloring. Any recommendations please?

  17. Howiyiz!

Alright people! I'm fairly new to the tattoo scene. Got my first tattoo in august on my leg. Now I've got most of my left arm covered. Absolutely love it. Cant get enough! I'll be looking for advice through the forums. Not gonna blurt it all out here as I'm only meant to be introducing myself! I've always had a huge amount of respect for tattoos and people that have them. especially big ones. Sleeves, chests, backs ect. My biggest regret is not starting sooner. Toyed with the idea for almost 5 years before I took the plunge. And if I'm honest the plunge I took probably wasn't the best one. Kept going though because I developed a huge amount of respect and trust for my artist. Cant wait to get some advice and ideas from wiz all! Rory!
  18. I'm going to be getting my first tattoo shortly and was looking at this for a wrist tattoo. Would this be too detailed for a wrist tattoo or would these work?

  20. hey, what do you guys think are some objects/other tattoos that compliment a mountain tattoo? Thanks!
  21. hello! I've been wanting to get a second tattoo for a while now, and its been difficult for me to find one that has meaning to me. My first and only tattoo is of a mountain range- on my left arm's outer forearm near the wrist. It is about 3 inches long. I only have one picture of my tattoo on my laptop, so I hope the one I provide gives you an idea of what I have. Im considering another tattoo of either a dove, or a flower. The dove has meaning to me, and I'm still currently looking into what kind of flower I would consider. If I have anything done, I would want it on the back of my arm, above my elbow. Do you think that this placement would look stupid because of my already existing tattoo on my forearm? The tattoo I would get on the back of my arm would not be huge, probably the same size as my current one. also, Do you have any advice as to what kind of tattoo may compliment the one I have now? Im open to suggestions too, I just want another tattoo. Im open to any and all ideas, because I'm running out of my own. Thanks!
  22. Hero tattoo help

Hello all, I was hoping I can get some help with an idea for a tattoo I want to get just don't know how to go about it. I'm not looking for a design but more for ideas. I most likely will hold a contest once the idea is thought of. I want to get a tattoo of a tribute of everyone who inspires me but don't know how. Currently I'm on the idea of a stack of books with each persons names on the books brim ( is that what the book side called?) but my GF said it was cheesy, but I'm all out of ideas, so I'm hoping you all can help. Dont wanna go the faces route, just want one using theirs names. Any ideas? Thanks.

  24. Hi guys. I am Joon-Mok, Song who is a tattooist in Korea. The tattooist career in Korea is just over a year, and I work all-round. I mean, I can tattoo all genre. I hope to be a tattooist in the UK. In Korea, where I live, only doctors can do tattoos legally. I am now doing illegal operations in Korea. There are many questions about how the Korean can act as tattooist in the UK. I would like to ask you a lot of advice about this. I was wondering 1. How do foreigners qualify for tattooing in the UK? 2. It is possible to do tattooist activity without certification. 3. If a certificate is required, how will it be acquired? 4. If a non-certified foreigner can work as a guest worker in the UK Thank you very much for reading.
