    What is your experience?

I have been a tattoo apprentice for 7/8 months now. Tattooing for roughly 3. I am on apprentice pay but don't get paid for extra hours I do (i did 6 extra hours this week) and tend to carry on work once I'm home. I obviously do everything from cleaning, stencils, reception work, designs and tattooing. I do 90% of the designs and my boss often takes credit for my stuff. I have a ridiculous work load and always work to the best of my ability. I get a lot of attention, support and praise for my tattoos off clients and other tattoo artists. I already have regular clients 💖. I charge for my tattoos, but my boss pockets it all and will do so until I get my licence. He also takes my tips. He gives me repeated tattoos and doesn't post my work because of this. Is this normal? I love tattooing and am not scared of hard work but I am struggling to live on my pay and feel underappreciated and over worked at the moment. What is everyone else's experience ? Is this just normal? Should I confront this?

  3. Hello guys, My name is Thiago, i'm tattooing around 2 years. I work at a Studio in Brazil. So i'm having trouble with healing. Some of my customers are getting yellow scabs that look like the pic attached. Usually It happens with white or lighter colors. My supplies are disposable, and i keep the enviroment clean and safe as possible. I'm kinda newbie so I don't know exactly If it's infection, allergies or If I went to deep in the skin. (Maybe because lighter colors are harder to apply for me). Can you guys help me figure This out? i really want to improve myself and bem a good professional 😢 Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi everyone, I've been following the forum for some time to get ideas and knowledge but I just decided to register and ask around opinions about how to continue my tattoo. A year ago I got my second tattoo which was this nordic "vegvisir" and now I'm thinking on progress it into a half sleeve, I have many ideas I'd like to put together but I don't quite see it because it has a nordic and ¿geometrical? style and all the half sleeves I've seen are done with Thor faces and the like, and the rest of my ideas have nothing to do with the norse. I know it's an extremely personal topic, and I'm not asking for an exact desing, I just want to know if any of you had come across a similar situation and what do you suggest me to do so it doesn't look strange or like a mashup of ideas with nothing in common. Should I continue with the nordic-like designs, leave the arm as it is and continue my tattooes somewhere else or do you know a way to continue here? Thanks in advance and sorry about my english, not my mother tongue.
  5. Hello, Im just wondering what you guys think. I got a new tattoo 17 days ago and the bits the artist went over and over to get really black still haven't healed fully and the bits that have healed are obvious raised scars that have not settled black. I have looked after my tattoo exactly how my artist said and it did not get infected. Is there anything that can be done? Can the scars be tattooed over to make it look normal? Thanks for your help in advance.

  9. So just over a year ago I got a tattoo on my bicep area. I made a mistake and didn't fully research the artist beforehand but I did research the shop and they had pretty much all 5/5 reviews. Anyway, i asked for a throne with roses around it and showed them the style i wanted, they recommended me Jordan and we booked it. A few weeks later I come in to get it done. First red flag, he forgot to put the roses around it and he added all these weird lines through the throne design. He apologised and I agreed to let him freehand the roses and for some reason I didnt say anything about the lines (my fault but i didnt want to be insulting). Then came placement, i said i wasnt sure where but i wanted it on my arm and asked him where he thought it would sit nicely. The placement was awful but i didnt notice until it was finished. Second red flag- it took 5 hours for a 2 hour tattoo. Third red flag i didnt find out he was a junior/apprentice? Until 1/3 into the tattoo. Anyhow i hated the tattoo but tried to convince myself i just needed to get rid. 1 year later i still hate it, the lines and shading are chunky, blurry and raised and now something even worse has happened. Out of nowhere the tattoo has become extremely lumpy and raised. I dont know why or what to do. Someone help please!

    First tatoo

Hey guys, first time posting here so i'll just cut to the problem. I am 19 years old and in college. I wanted to get a tatto like year or two ago but i decided to wait. Basically one month ago i went to one tatto artist and he told me everything i needed to know before getting one and i gave him the picture i wanted and he explainded it to me how would he do it and much would it cost. He is not the classis give me picture i'll draw it ,he likes to ink dots and lines i don't know how to explain. Last monday i went to another tatto artist gave him picture and he off the bat told me how much it would cost and the price was muuuch muuuch smaller and i guess i got woowed so to say and said when do i start, he told me come next monday i'll draw it if you like it we start tuesday. The problem here now is the tattoing became a reality and i just gor scared, im scared for multiple reasons. Will he make it look good even though the price is low, how will he ink the white wolf, i dont want white ink on me i did the research i know its bad, how am i going to take care of it since im alone in appartment and im planning on putting it on my back bellow neck. Please guys help, is this tatto even able to ink? I know its very different on paper and on skin.

    Help me!!!! Apprenticeship

What is everyone's experience on training? I have been a tattoo apprentice for 2 and a half months and am unsure on what's normal and not. My boss has got a tattoo appointment lined up for me at the end of this week. He said he will be leaving me COMPLETELY by myself and if I don't do a good job, I am out. I feel this is unsafe as I have only tattoed on silicone under his supervision a handful of times. This will be my second ever tattoo on skin. I do get to watch him for roughly 30 mins a day, but I get so much pressure put on me with designs, deadlines and stencils, I don't get to watch or practice enough. I tattoo at home on fake skin and research but I feel there is only so much I can do by myself. I am on £3 odd an hour, I do all the designs, cleaning the shop, reception work (all of which I expected to do). I have invested in good tattoo guns/ equipment also. What is everyone's thoughts?

    Hero tattoo help

Hello all, I was hoping I can get some help with an idea for a tattoo I want to get just don't know how to go about it. I'm not looking for a design but more for ideas. I most likely will hold a contest once the idea is thought of. I want to get a tattoo of a tribute of everyone who inspires me but don't know how. Currently I'm on the idea of a stack of books with each persons names on the books brim ( is that what the book side called?) but my GF said it was cheesy, but I'm all out of ideas, so I'm hoping you all can help. Dont wanna go the faces route, just want one using theirs names. Any ideas? Thanks.
  15. Hi I am currently browsing for tattoo supplies / kits as I would like to see if I like it by trying on fake skin /pig skin (Not real skin) before I dedicate 3 years to an apprenticeship. I know tattoo kits are normally very bad quality and made from China but I found one from Killer Ink for apprenticeships , but I would like to know your opinion on it and any information that can help . I would post pictures but the files are too big . It's called the Professional tattoo kit ||| - Advanced. Thanks in advance. Cian.
  16. I got this tattoo 2 days ago and the lines are so uneven! Is it even possible to fix? When he had it printed on my skin he said that the lines will be a lot straighter when tattoos, that it was just a rough sketch but that wasn't true because the lines are very uneven. I had a look at his portfolio beforehand and everything looked perfect but my tattoo came out so much worse. When I left the studio it looked ok but I didn't really notice how wonky the lines are until today. Is there anything I can do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Hi everyone! I am currently a college student doing a research project over tattoo artists....this is really weird, I know. But if anybody could help me out by answering this quick survey about some general job information, I would greatly appreciate it! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSePMp09rP4wk7hSh24aQIevtBB-cQNGU_puw__MQdvNHtmDLw/viewform?c=0&w=1 Thank you so much
  18. Hi all, i got got a tattoo done 5 weeks ago, I followed what my artist told me to do (as best I could with work commitments - I work in McDonald's so not as easy to apply lotion every 4 hours to start with), this tattoo is scaly, and bumpy still, it didn't peel either? with all my other tattoos this never happened, I went to see my artist and he told me it could have just been overworked... it will be fine, but I would like another opinion on it. thankyou in advance!!!

  20. Hey guys I have this great anchor tattoo when my grandpa passed away. I want to add around it to make it into an awesome half sleeve I need ideas though. I want to stay with the ocean/nautical theme though. I was thinking maybe like and eel or a rope going around my arm and through the anchor but I need some ideas. I feel like it would be pretty bland with just a rope. It doesnt need to be very proportionate I just want it to look awesome and be proud of it thanks! I can add a link to the picture because honestly im not sure how to add pictures
