recently i bought a bench power supply , i hooked up both my liner and shader to the unit...(they did run fine with an old feebay two dorrar ps unit )
problem is i have to "bump" the A bar to get going....when i have set my volts, and sound by "ear" and all seems well....i depress my foot switch and repress.. and the machine wont restart ..unless i re-bump it ... almost like there is not enough of a magnetic force occuring to pull my A bar down ... im stumped , ive taken my machines apart and retuned, tried many settings still doing the same thing ! is there something im missing here ? its prob so obvious i cant see it ! anyone have some suggestions ? heres a pic of the PS, maybe im not setting the current correctly , anybody clued up in this area ?

Just gonna toss this out, not sure if it's your problem or not but I had a similiar problem. Seemed I had too much air gap, and my volts too low. So I tweaked the gap down just abit and adjusted my volts and it worked fine. Other common sense things could be making sure your carbon buildup is cleaned off on the front spring, contact screw, and undersides of the A bar. Dunno if that helps, but though I'd toss it out.

lol I'm tweaking my shader daily, got a new setup I'm going to try this weekend hopefully with 15 mags and see if it flows in smoother with less beatup. |

u might want to try a SLIGHTLY thinner rear spring gauge in this case. i have a similar power supply, in 18v 3amp. its a nice PS, and it drives the current pretty evenly. reason i say that is because im thinkin about trying a lower spring gauge on my shader, as the same thing happens to me once in a while. i hafto run it around 7.3-7.4 to hit the sweet spot, but its got a fairly small gap between the rear of the armature bar and the rear spring saddle, so im thinkin even tho i got 18g back spring on it now, it might be too rigid for a lower voltage set up. maybe bumpin down to 16 would decrease the tension and keep everything flowing...? also maybe reduce the voltage it needs.
