Well its been a damn good amount of time since Ive wrote in here.. and I figured I should make an update as to where Ive been and what Ive been up to.. Working in a shop has been a very big learning experience.. mainly learning what NOT to do alot more then what to do.. its amazing that even with the little I know, I still know more then the head artist does.. and yet even when you teach them a little trick (mind you Im the fucking apprentice.. and Im teaching the head artist things.. ) he takes all the credit for it like he's the shit.. FUCKER. the dude broke a rear spring a few weeks ago during a tattoo and damn near shit himself.. cause he had NO clue what to do.. was in a total panic as to what was going on and how to handle the situation. it was kinda commical.. but I fixed it for him and he was back on his way.. on top of the lack of skill and knowledge.. is the amazing ammount of carelessness that goes around.. noone seems to give a shit about keeping things clean. using green soap to surface clean everything (hello that doesnt do shit people).. and Ive been there awhile now and have not even see a sore test for the autoclave let alone one actually being ran.. Ive pretty much gained alot of respect from the owner and his mom (who runs the front for the most part).. and even though Im putting out work comparable to the other artist in the shop Im still not making any money cause Im an "apprentice" fuck that.. I know more then the fuckers working there.. I think they need to go back and apprentice.. its insain.. I honestly laff to myself ALOT while Im there..
Well here is the first wrist tattoo I ever did.. last weekend on my gf it was supposed to be black tribal.. but she wanted to try and see what it would look like with as green vines instead .. came out pretty cool I think ![]() and here is the next step of work on my design on my upper thigh.. did a some color fill.. what a great learning expereience.. by the end it really sunk in what you guys are always talking about.. with the "slow down to go faster" line..
I did this tattoo on the back of my girlfriends neck about 2 weeks ago now.. Just havent had the chance to post the pic.. It is covering up the first star I did on the back of her neck. ![]() the tattoo went really well.. I felt VERY confident and everything was going smoothly.. I ran into a problem with the stencil however.. Right away, the first time I whiped the stencil started disapearing so I tried to be as careful as possible but still ended up losing some of it.. I ended up pulling it off pretty well I think.. she has decided that she wants the black outline to be thicker.. so I was kinda excited to hear that.. gives me a chance to make that upper right line straight.. I used a 5RL and a 7mag for the fill.. Im honesly think I like round shaders better for tight fill like this.. Im going to re-do the outline with a 9RL I was very pleased with this tattoo.. even though I messed that one line up I felt very good about it. what do you guys/girls think?
Well I drew this design up about a month ago and have been wanting to tattoo it on myself ever since.. It started off as just a clover tattoo above my knee. always wanted a clover tattoo since my birthday is on st. patricks day and then I seem to have a fetish for gas mask lately so I figured why not throw a skull with a gas mask in there.. make the tattoo have a toxic background and throw some tribal on the skull.. this is what the background will look like when Im done hopefully... ![]() This is what the skull and clover will look like once colored in.. ![]() So tonight I started on it.. I figured I'd go in and do the line work tonight.. fill in the tribal.. going to let that heal up and then will start working on the coloring. ![]() I was using a 5RL and a 7mag for the fill.. (7mag was not the best choice.. should have went with a 5RS.. think I would have had better results) Im happy with it being my 3rd peice.. but honestly I think I could have done soo much better.. I was having problems keeping the skin stretched. and in some places I would be pulling a line and would actually be moving my hand towards the hand that was stretching the skin which in return made me kinda compress the skin together.. I was really thinking that my thigh would be a easy place for me to practice and would give me a chance to really get into it and bust this one out.. but I was having a very hard time.. I found it hard to see as well.. I know I know excusses, excusses.. but Im just sharing my experince with you all.. Im kinda bummed it didnt come out alot better then it did cause I was really proud of myself with this design.. Its going to need touch ups and Im really sure that once I do the color work it will hide some of the mistakes and make it look that much better.. about half way through the design I took a break cause my kneck was killing me from benind over to see.. and man I almost passed out when I stood up.. I was sooooo light headed from all the blood that had rushed to my head I assume.. So I took a nice break.. walked around a bit, grabbed a glass of pop and a peice of candy and went back at it.. Ive come to the conclusion that I need a better light source ASAP.. definitely before doing another tattoo. Im kinda bummed out cause like I said I feel like I should have done better.. Im going to get back at tattooing druit and pig every single day.. I stopped tattooing that stuff daily and was only doing a peice here and there.. and instead have been drawing.. so lets hear it..
Well I have been slacking big time on getting pictures posted and stuff like that.. school just started back up. (I work for a school district) and man we are unreal busy.. has been a pita trying to find time to get online and do things but Im back in the saddle baby.. things are definitely on the up and up.. I have a sweet tattoo planned for tomorrow. and I will definitely be posting the pics.. It is a design I drew and I willbe giving it to myself on my right upper leg.. right above my knee.. cant wait. I LOVE the design.. Im going to do the line work and shade work tomorrow.. and once that heals Im going to do the color work Im thinking..
man I really really need to find a better place to buy PIG skin.. the place I get it from keeps running out and to be honest I have NO desire to tattoo fruit.. ive been doing it but it is hard to get motivated to do it.. I know its still helping build skills and all so I am being humbel I have a bunch of new pics.. just need to get them posted up.. Ive been kinda lazy and havent been online much.. Ordered a good ammount of supplies today.. so I can start doing some REAL tattoo's all the good stuff.. clip cord covers.. dental bibs.. went and bought/picked up my massage table.. man this thing is BIG and heavy.. I love it..
well I had done this star on my ankle a few weeks ago... and it finally heeled up ![]() So I found a good star outline online and then drew some flames around it.. heres the ideas I started with.. ![]() I then did the outline with a 3RL (its all I had.... either 3RL or 9RL... figured 3 was a smarter choice).... ![]() I then did my first ever color fill with a 5RS.... What another Huge learning experience.... definitely going to need to do some touch ups on the fill.. in both the star and the flames.. I was nervous working the skin any longer cause I didnt want to over work it..
Well sadly I have been away for about a week.. although I have still been working on my tattooing skills daily.. We had a party a few days ago and bought a bunch of fruit.. one of which was a honey dew melon... after balling all the inside of the melon I realized it could probably be a VERY sweet medium for practicing on.. soo I went to town.. the melon was huge so it gave me LOTS of room to try so larger designs.. Im still waiting on my order from technical supply.. (transfer paper and such) so these again were all freehanded on with a sharpie and then tattooed! let me know what you think.. please be brutaly honest.. I used a 9rl and a 11mag I started with this mask designs.. ![]() you can see I missed a line on the upper right part of the mask.. dumb dumb dumb.. this is the other half of the same design.. ![]() then I seen this flower designs on a flash site and decided I would give it a try.. ![]() I was going to color fill the flower.. but the melon wasnt working to well on color fill.. it took the color well.. but when you whip the color gets on the surrounding areas and leaches into the rine of the melon.. which sucked. you can see what Im talking about in the skull I did.. ![]() you can see near the eye how I whiped the red and it got on the surrounding areas and made them pink.. also you notice the fin on the back has green all on it.. I did a little flower above the skull whiped and got green on it on accident. was pretty good practice for line work though.. since the melon is so large it really cuts down on the tendancy of trying to move the melon to a better position instead of just tatttoing it as it sits ... So let me know what ya think.. what are my weaknesses? where should I focus my concentration on learning?
So tonight I finally gave in and gave my girlfriend a star tattoo on the back of her neck.. I used a 9rL needle I still havent gotten any thermal carbon paper.. so again this was freehanded with a sharpie first.. I think it turned out really well.. she wants to ecentually fill it in.. but I told her before I started that I couldnt do that yet cause I was told by shortyrock to master lines before shading or filling im a semi good listener at times.. anyways I messed up on the line thickness on a few of the lines.. even though they are nice and straigh I found that I was so nervous that I had let the machine drop in my hand to more of a 3-4 o'clock position instead of the 12-1 o'clock and its noticable in the line strengh.. but again like I said she wants to fill it so I wasnt overly worried about that.. since its fixable. so with out making you wait any longer
todays practice.. still no thermal carbon so I stenciled it on with a sharpie.. the pic was to large and on a round object so I had to take 3 diffrent section pictures... Please let me know what you think good or bad.. I feel like I am really improving.. I am very confident with my machine now. and feel very comfortable with it in my hand and while I am using it!!! so here it is.. ![]() ![]() this part didnt come out so well.. I drew it on wrong and tried to fix it while tattooing but that didnt totaly work either.. ![]() I was using a 9rl sadly I think that might be a little much for the grapefruit as it seems to be making the ink migrate under the skin of the fruit alot.. I havent changed anything with the set up from the 5rl and 3rl I was using before. and I wasnt having this problem at all.. so Im guessing its due to the larger needle grouping.. but maybe not.. please let me know what you think or what experiecen you have had... all and all I think it looks pretty damn sweet.. with a good stencil I feel like I could do a perfect job.. cant wait to get some thermal carbon paper so I can give it my all!! would love to hear feedback!!! |
