Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:
Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?
Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?
Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?
Color Harmony: Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?
Placement/Size: Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?
Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?
Feedback: What areas could be improved?

All kidding and swankin aside, nevery's replies, on this post so far make very interesting reading, WHETHER THEY BE RIGHT OR WRONG. I found it most refreshing to read through an informed and most eloquent response, which, as we all are aware is everyones right, as , like all of us he is, entitled to his opinion. Every so often on here we have a spate of vicerel (sic) diatriabe spouted forth as an excuse for answer, or as a means of defense, I feel (IMO) nevery's past opinions/posts are being brought in to discredit his opinion on this subject, I don't wish to enter into the heady halls of "polotiks", but this has been the most interesting post, for the simple reason, can photoshop replicate art in the format of a tattoo, or is it possible to tattoo to such a high standard as to be considered "photoshopped,Peace as always,P. x2 well said |

nev...
isnt it true that in photoshop (Im not sure if its all versions) if you rotate an image in a certain way, it resamples the whole thing? i.e. smoothing etc the image out? I think its if you do it manually rather than image > rotate... Let me know. I'm interested. I'd always found that photoshop did some silly things I didn't want it to. Alex. |

Hey Alex, Yes, the older versions degraded the image with some noticeable artifacts and smoothing (or what they call interpolation), but the newer versions don't; at least not with noticeable degradation and there's no blurring, just blocky artifacts. (by this, I mean rotated by 90º angles. You'll always get blurring at proprietary angles.) Both were effectively fixed in v8.0. But honestly, just opening and saving a jpeg degrades it anyway, but again, you get blocky artifacts, not really smoothing. I once saw a study that proved the effects of this by opening and saving a jpeg ~160 times. By the end, it looked like brightly colored noise. It was pretty cool, imo. Thank you. -------------------- -Nev.
