Just got my copy today and checked it out...... friggin' awesome!!!
Although he uses neuma machines he says he uses the same techniques with coil machines as well. Goes over everything from stencils to white highlights, including needle configs, inks, psi settings, and more. I'm too tired to write up a full review but will if I get time over the next couple of days. Highly recommended, although it ended up costing a pretty penny in AU dollars after the currency conversion!! -------------------- "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

Stillbirth, It was $128US including shipping 2 weeks ago.... it ended up costing me just over $200 AU
The DVD goes for about 2 hours and shows the tattoo from start to finish in 'fast motion' as the actual tattoo took 7-8 hours. So I guess the speed is like 2.5 times actual speed. He shows how he makes his stencils (by hand). He talks alot about making your own choices when it comes to this style, and also making a decision and moving on, not dwelling over any particular section you are doing or have just done. Trust in what you see on your reference picture and block in shapes, even if a certain area looks strange after you have done it, once the tattoo is complete it will come together as long as you done the shapes the same as the reference. Position, value and colour choice are discussed and the camera shows his ink cap layout and dipping techniques during the tattoo which is pretty cool. Nikko doesn't go into tattooing technique like 'how to shade' as the DVD is meant for experienced artists. But he does tell you things like why he prefers a 5 liner over a side ways mag to tighten and line certain areas. He mentions that although he loves coil machines, he finds he can run the neuma's light and layer colours easier without messing up the skin. Although it is possible to set a coil machine up to run the same way. He is also experimenting with rotary machines with great results as they run similar to a neuma (according to Nikko). I do recommend this DVD for anyone into colour portrait tattooing. It seems a little steep in price but I guess if you compare it to Brandon Bond's DVD's it is just a little bit of petty cash LOL .... -------------------- "You have enemies? Good. Hey everyone, if you go to the Gnomoworkshop website, you can download the digital copy, no shipping no waiting. From the time I entered my credit card number to the time it was downloaded on my computer is about 30 mins. Cost is 99.00 usd. The file comes to you in Quiktime (mpeg4), converted file and burnt to dvd no problem. Now I can watch on my laptop or tv or Ipod. |

But seriously, that digital download method. Is there a menu system, chapters etc?
Or is it just one long video file. -------------------- Loneferret

Everything is relative to one's own knowledge. Good point. Odds are, in my case, would be a good purchase (not the portrait but one of the other ones) -------------------- Loneferret
