> Guidelines for Giving Feedback

Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:

Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?

Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?

Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?

Color Harmony:
Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?

Placement/Size:
Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?

Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?

Feedback: What areas could be improved?

Nice coloring on the cupcake. Really like it. I see some line thickness issues on the ribbon, and the coloring doesn't seem as smooth, but both are nice in my opinion. I'd be happy to have the cupcake if I was a girl. The other two I think you need to take some closer pics if you want any input from anyone.

Well here is my critique, such as it is, .....I am not the most skilled person here, and I am still in the infancy of learning to tattoo and the quality of my work is probably not quite as good as this, but the thing that struck me first and foremost was the title of the post....these tattoos have come out of a studio. I am assuming that this is a working shop and not a "studio" in the home

Can't really critique the first pic (ship and occy) except the lining looks pretty good, would like to see the finished tattoo
The Cup Cake....there are some wobbly lines and a line over-run (right hand horn)....and the right hand wing does'nt look very much like a wing
The Bow.....Artistically not very good, especially on the left hand side of the knot, the stars are awful along with the curly lines, the whole thing should have been drawn a lot better
The bird thingy is the same as the ship, can't really critique an outline, except to say that the feather scales are all over the shop, i.e. different sizes

Both the Cup Cake and the Bow probably could have done with some more shading (the bow has none at all) although the colour blending and shading is really good.

I'm just hoping that these are not the best examples of work coming out of your studio. Sorry but that's how I see it.

just for big pete ill post the the line drawing for the jack mosher hawk just to show that the lines are supposed to be "all over the place" and yes we are a busy town centre studio with 4 full time artists and not a home studio (although theres nothing wrong with working from home as most of us start out that way)..the bow design came from jenny clarke (the uks biggest tattoo flash seller)but if pete says its crap design then it must be lol and looking at his pic of the 2 bows that he did on the fat thighs i dont know how he dare comment about the one we posted...i posted the pics to get feedback but i think pete was a bit harsh but hes welcome to have his say and we don't claim to be the best tattooists in the uk but as long as our customers are happy and we stay as busy as we are right now then thats what counts
