It just occured to me that with all of the people on here just learning. That some may have a need for new springs in the near future. I read on another artist's website that back in the day they used to make their own springs. If you know inone that works in a wharehouse you can take some old banding strap from a pallet and cut and shape it to your liking and get some emory cloth from an auto parts store (Oreilly's Auto Parts sells it by the foot if you have one near you) and take the bures of the edges and bam you have a new set of springs. This is good for fine tuning your machines.

They work like shit. Myself and the owner of teh shop where i learned tried it. It's a pain to cut the strap because it bends from the tin snips. Mass produced springs are stamped .You'll be going through more hassle then it's worth trying to make a spring.

I hear that you can make good spring out of feeler gauges. I guess the different gauges directly correlate to the tension. I have some literature from about tuning machines with springs, I think they even say what gauges to use together.
