There's been a lot on the site recently regarding below par work. With that in mind did anyone see Look North (a Yorkshire regional news programme) on Wednesday? It featured a (supposed) tattoo artist who I'll not name inking over 200 names onto the back of some guy!
Fuck me if you think some of the stuff people have been flamed for on here wasn't up to scratch you should have seen the shite this guy was passing off!! It truly looked like a 10 year old kid had taken a biro to the guys back!! They cut to a shot of him actually tattooing and he was shaking like a shitting dog! This is from a town center shop by the way! If nothing else it shows how bad some of the supposedly professional artists are!! Doesn't surprise me one bit.
What was the feature supposed to be promoting? (Do you get Colin Briggs where you are too?) |

should see the work coming out of shops in hull lately - seriously - i was chatting with muffinman yesterday about it he says theres shops popping up left right and centre - my brother came to me the other day with this tiger design and tribal - quite a common flash piece but it was all scratched in and faded fallouts all overand shakey lines - i wonteven mention the monstrosities theyve done they have the nerve to call coverups on him -n apparently my old man went into same said shop wich i wont name but whilst my bro was there with him they were supposedly knowingly tattooing a minor (15 yrs old!!!) the uk has fast become a scratchers paradise - its at times like this i look on reflection and think - so this is why the qualified artists are so edgy when i walk in and ask if theyd like an apprentice - i mean hey i get it that by learning on my own i too enter the realms of a scratcher but i like to think that i am on another level when i would consider myself to have some artistic ability - arent using ebay starter kits and do all that i can to ensure i am clean and sterile - and i know for a fact all my work i have done is 100 percent better than what is coming out most those shops

Yup thats the article. As a squaddie myself I'm not knocking the sentiment but when the camera showed some of the names in close up they were all over the place. It would be good if there were no more names to add but thats wishful thinking. TC -------------------- If you haven't fallen off yet you're obviously not trying hard enough!

Following up to what Ink-Sink said, it really is appalling, friends often ask me why I haven't gone down the apprentice route, you'd only need to take a short tour of Hull to see why, and Amybird, I genuinely believe a lot of people do not even know that the fine art side of tattooing exists, and that bad tattoos are as good as it gets. Most of my fellow tattoo lovers here travel great distances to get tattooed by competent artists.
However, when I start tattooing commercially, and it won't be until my Tattoos come out as good as the drawings (probably a couple of years from now), I at least know that the bar is set low, LOL. |

I did a tat on a mate from Hull a while back. he'd originally booked in to quite a big Hull shop first with an all red design he wanted by a hiphop artist. He sat down to get ready and the guy started pouring out black ink.
he was like "wow what are you doing. I said all red" the guy said "but we need to do a black outline first" my mate refused, walked out and ended up coming to me a couple of months later and is very happy with it. It baffled me really. I hear loads more bad shops have opened up in Hull. Probably all buying kits from powerline!! -------------------- ... -.-. .-. . .-- / -.-- --- ..- / --. ..- -.-- ... / .. .----. -- / --. --- .. -. --. / .... --- -- .
