You know, some springs don't come with contact points anymore?  In fact, with some companies, they ask you if you want your machine with or without contact points.  The three machines I have don't have them.  I guess its just a changing technology.

The contact point is there so you don't burn through your spring so fast.

Not all machines springs will have contact points.  Mine don't and I prefer them that way.  One thing you will find about differences in machines is that it depends on who uses them.  Different people like different things.  That is why I suggest buying all kinds of frames, coils, capacitors, springs, armature bars and experiment.  See what feels the best for you.  My machines are set to run soft and I know other artists whose machines run so hard they sound like chainsaws.

I noticed it said to press on your spring to check your gap, you should never press your spring to check your gap push the armature bar instead, this will prevent bending of your springs.

ok got the gap setting thing down I think..

but is there a diffrence between the machine itself between a line and a shader?

like if I have two machines how can I tell if its a liner or a shader?

or could either machine be tuned to work as the other?

meaning a shader could be adjusted to be a line.. and vise versa?
