Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:
Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?
Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?
Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?
Color Harmony: Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?
Placement/Size: Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?
Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?
Feedback: What areas could be improved?

Is this a tattoo or artwork? If it's a tattoo, you've got it in the wrong section.
Other than that, you need to post a bigger pic so we can catch some detail, and possibly pull out a bit so we can see some sort of framework, background, something. Looks good from a distance. -------------------- |

It's a Tattoo, the black around the outside is from Photoshop, so the shape of the face isnt quite so small.

It's hard to tell what's photo shopped and what's not. Maybe just post a pic without the photoshop, and it will be easier to decipher. Give you a better critique. Can you post a bigger pic too?
EDIT: I moved this from art class to show and tell. -------------------- |

i actually like it (from what i can see) it doesn't look like a typical portrait (assuming you weren't going for a typical portait look?) it looks more arty with a twist of realism. only thing i can say is the left eye (his right) looks a little too dark, would have looked better done with a slightly lighter black and a dark blue over the top. and maybe a little light blue shading on the right side of his nose (his left) to make it look slightly less flat.

Sorry Dog, but I don't believe this is a real tattoo or it has been digitally enhanced alot. I pulled it into P.S. zoomed in and took a good look and I have some questions for you. First what's the deal with all the white? Was it done at an earlier setting? If so why start with a white base and how did you get it so white? I can see your reference marks on the stencil for color with the blu, y, and w marks on it. Did you put the stencil on after the white base? If you did it in one sitting why can I still see the stencil, white is transparent but after packing in all that white do you think the stencil would still be visable? I guess you were either real careful not to wipe away the stencil while packing all that color or decided to line the color reference marks on the tattoo. I can't find any part of it that looks like it has not been digitally manipulated, it actually looks like you took the stencil, pasted it onto a photo of skin or flesh colored background and then digitally painted in the rest, that would explain all the white. If I'm wrong and this is a real tattoo I apologize ahead of time but have big concerns on your execution and technique, if I'm right maybe I/We misunderstood your post and maybe you were working it up to see how it might look on skin or you were working out the values before putting it to skin. I'm not trying to start a big keyboard war or trying to be a dick, just calling it like I see it. With people using this site to learn something I'm just trying to keep it real for everyone.

Jabbards has it. As a Mod we have to be careful not to jump in & make things uncomfortable & start a shitstorm.
The first time I looked at this I doubted that I was looking at a tattoo at all, if it is a tattoo I'm going to ask you to post an unaltered photograph of it in this thread (as J.D. has already asked for). It's either not a tattoo at all or it's been so heavily manipulated that it is impossible to give a straight critique. I hope J & I are wrong and that you post an uncompromised picture for genuine critique. If this turns out not to be a tattoo you've done we'll have to decide how to move forwards, if it is a tattoo you've done we can critique it & ask for tips & techniques as it looks so unusual & must have been very technically challenging... -------------------- We are all laying in the gutter but some of us are looking for spare change...

Hi, we really need to clear up the questions hanging over the Joker piece you posted. Just post some unaltered photographs in the original thread & that will be the end of it. We know you still visit the forum regularly and have to assume you'd check back on your own thread, therefore you know the concerns the Mods & some other members have regarding this tattoo. Due to the nature of this forum & it's members we have a responsibility to promote good practice at all times. We cannot allow members to "massage" an image or post anything other than their own work..
