im thinking of doing both .... the printed version i will be selling for printing cost plus shipping cost plus the $1 for my McDouble hahah ... the ebook i may ask for a small donation anywhere from $1-5 that i will be donating ( our shop supports a foundation by harley called R.A.AC.E "Ride Against Abused Children Everywhere" ) so we will see again i need to talk to contributers

i would like that deal to only be for ink trails members but for anyone else i again need to talk to the contibutors to sort out the details im thinking a small fee for people not on the trails that can maybe go to a fund and when i get enough cash in that fund i can use that for ink trails contest to buy prizes such as watercolors, liquid acrylics, machines, whatever

not a bad idea, have you gotten quotes for the books? i know its pretty damn hefty even with the cheapest bindings.. i have been involved with similar projects that never seem to make it past the web because of costs, you really have to run off alot of copies to get a decent price

yeah i looked at a few places but i dont have the cash to dish out $1000 for 500 copys or whatever so what ima gunna do is a make to order ... i have a friend ( i hope lol ive done a few tattoos for him ) that works at the local staples printing center i know the fancy smancy spiral binding is what im gunna use at that runs about $1-2 a piece then prinitng on cardstock may hit aroun $5-7 depending on pages so im looking at low end $6 high end prolly $10 per book so im not sure yet depending on what kinda deal i can get from this guy we will see .. ive also got a hookup at a printing company they do brocures and shit not sure if they do binding but i an going to hit him up and se what i can accomplish through him ...

so may be a little pricey but def worth it i guarentee ...

if you are serious about running off larger numbers, it would probably be better to look overseas, china or somewhere alot of the bigger companies will outsource international printers anyway.. could be worth looking into, you could knock a few dollars off per book

Do you have any idea yet of how many artists there will be in total or how many pages?

Would it help to have some kind of pre-order system to front the initial print costs? It would be nice if you can get it done "locally" e.g. be able to check over the quality etc, rather than making some bulk order from China then finding out that all the reds came out pink and the yellows are orange etc, especially if the contest entries are anything to go by regarding the amount of care people are putting into this.

I was thinking about this today, and I'm sure I'm not just speaking for myself when I say I certainly was not expecting to have any of my tattoo art published at all for a long long time yet, and would be more than happy to pay a little extra for the privelage of being published so soon among so many amazing artists and sold internationally. smile.gif

Also, are you planning to have any sort of contents page or somewhere listing the artists, or will all the names be on the front? I had a cool-ish design idea for a contents page which probably wouldn't take toooo long to draw up at the last minute if you decide you'll need one.

amy ... great idea about the pre order proccess ... i may decide to do that i will be doing research tonight n tomorrow when i have the time ... because that could cut initial costs down quite a bit from what i would be needing

secondly yes a contect page will be in this it will list all information i am provided by the artist ie. Name, Username, and Website or mysapce for each indevidual artist ... that actual artist count i cant say as i have not gotten final words from a few many are saying i may throw a few together u know .. so i do have a lot of support though i will be getting designs from a lot f various artist including ones i have not mentioned here but have ent me personal messages expressing intrest ....

I'll try to put together a rough sketch of my contents page idea for you over the next couple of days, to see if you think it's worth using if you like smile.gif

For the pre-order system there could also be a general donation option too. You getting any closer to deciding a definite price yet? Good art is worth good money. I'd willingly pay a fair amount for just a single piece of work by several of the members here smile.gif
