> Guidelines for Giving Feedback

Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:

Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?

Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?

Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?

Color Harmony:
Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?

Placement/Size:
Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?

Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?

Feedback: What areas could be improved?

i'm in this for the long haul and believe that any work i put on another human needs to be perfect...so i am using my thighs for practice, believe it or not i gag on the smell from pig skin and i cant shade on the fruit, at least not well enough to make it look decent, so I have opted to be my own canvas, at the rate i'm going I will need to work small scale or I fear i will run out of space on my legs before I feel good enuf to tatt a person... thanks though

Post up some of your artwork and let's see what your foundation is, if your artwork ability is poor or lacking your just wasting time hitting skin at this point.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant for you to post up some finished artwork in the art class section so we can see what kind of an artist you are to start with.

that is a very basic image,no detail,no linweight differentiating anything, unfinished looking, and it shows in your tattoo, any work you do must be fully detailed and thought out before,it is a reflection of the finished work, you need to keep drawing,on this one you need more detail, shading and basically some composition work with the web to give it conformity to pull the piece together,it needs fine tuning,it is a good start on paper, but more effort needs to be done before you say you have a finished piece to tattoo from, just my opinion

You need to practice your lining before worrying about the shading aspect, the lines in this tattoo look like you have either run out of ink or are using a very diluted ink, if the ink is emptying out of the well in the tip very quickly, then you probably haven't got your machine adjusted and tuned correctly, or many many other reasons, Most of the lines look like you have bloodlined them first. Definately more practice for you before attempting to tattoo human skin again and read all you can on here, if you can't handle pig skin, try practice skins, not perfect but better than covering your whole leg with crap. When you do go back to your own skin, do little designs....the smaller they are, the easier they are to cover-up later.

pig skin of course would be ideal, barring that practice skins can be a bitch to get used to but you CAN get good results, and personally I believe that if a person can not get good results on practice skin they have no hope of doing well in real skin and have no business attempting it even if it is on themselves.

Here is an example, not meant to be rude but simply to show that it can be done, I still have a long way to go myself
