Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:
Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?
Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?
Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?
Color Harmony: Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?
Placement/Size: Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?
Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?
Feedback: What areas could be improved?

what i see wrong ... the hat its so close to my cock i couldnt get a good strech and line so it was pretty nad ... for some realon on the brim i dediced to leave a gap and it looks horrible ... and thiers a few spots that need a bit more saturation ... also blood looks a bit bright but it should calm down ... about 4 hours 8rl 9mag eternal, stable color, waverly and permapro ( unique ) ![]() -------------------- www.inkedbythenerd.com swallowsndaggers tattoo forum Swallows and Daggers Support The Traditional Movement Tattoo Artist, Painter, Asshole and Machine Collector |

This is awesome. There's something about the hat that just seems a bit lacking compared to the rest. Gradients just don't feel as smooth......or something.
Nice work, mang. -------------------- |

Nice man. Nice use of black. Love the blood. Considering you're learning to ride the needle AND it's on you, I think you lined very well, and it looks like you learned a whole lot this tattoo. Props for your commitment to figuring out this art style.

Having little to no experience with a machine, what does "riding the needle" mean? I've heard it alot. Riding the tube is when you set your needle to extend out from the tube at your desired depth. That way, you can just run the tube tip along the skin and be sure you're getting a consistent depth. The positive of this is you get a consistent depth that makes for consistent line weight. It also assures you're not gonna go too deep which can lead to blowouts and keloid scarring. Downside is your ink puddles like a motherfucker and you can't see where you're going. You gotta learn to visualize where your needle is. Diamond tips are used for tube riding since there's that open gap at the tip to see the shiny part of the needle as you run your line. Riding the needle is when you set your needle to hang much further out. You need to be very careful to keep control of your needle depth since you can now dig the needle as far into the skin as the needle is set out. Negative aspects of riding the needle are that if you can't control your depth, your lines are gonna either fall out because you went too shallow, or they can blow out or scar because you went too deep. A huge positive in riding the needle is, it puddles much less. You have much less ink to deal with cleaning up, and you can see where you're needle is going. Riding the needle, I find also helps when dealing with big fluxuations in how thick or thin the skin is. Say for example the calf and shin. You have a meaty thick area like the calf, but then, if you have a tattoo that runs over the shin, then the skin gets super, super thin on the bone. If riding the tube, you'd have to stop and readjust your needle hang a few times mid tattoo. If you're riding the needle, you can just adjust your depth as you see fit on the fly. Riding the needle takes a lot of practice to be able to feel how deep your going. A great way to get a good feel for riding the needle is to practice on fruit and pig. A lot of snagging will happen when starting out. You can avoid a lot of that on real skin by taking your time, and getting it right on the non living stuff. -------------------- |

So, is it more common to ride your tube or needle? (Sounds dirty) -------------------- |

Great explanation. Thanks. So, is it more common to ride your tube or needle? (Sounds dirty) I think it's more common to ride the needle. But there are great tattoo artists who ride the tube. -------------------- |
