Timezones would be the biggest headaches. As far as Australia is concerned, when we are going to bed late at night, the Americans are just waking up .... lol
It's not hard to set one up anyway, as long as you use mIRC or some other derivative. -------------------- If at first you don't succeed ......... maybe skydiving is not for you.

another forum i belong to has a chat room, dont get much use really but then we dont have over 2000 members

yeah there was a problem, & we lost everything, all info was deleted, accounts & everything. however, it is back up now, have to re register.

Met my wife in a chat room.......don't know if having one here is a good thing.....lol
I reckon it would probably be a good idea, but then again, there is an increase of insults and abuse associated with chat rooms, some people just find enjoyment in being real dicks when it comes to chat rooms and can't help dishing out abuse and general bullying, |

And since registering the IRC chatroom, I am the only one that has been in there ........ alone ........... idling away ......... no-one to talk to .......... *sniff*
 [Edit : if this takes off (and by present usage I don't think there is any hope of that) I will hand over channel powers to Jason or Mark, and they can assign channel operators as they see fit] Unless they want to add one to the site itself, in which case I will close this one down. Nah, you don't have to buy it, just keep clicking the "open anyway" option
If anyone needs a walkthrough for setting it up and joining the chatroom, let me know and I'll make one up. Likewise, if anyone wants me to scrap the chatroom also let me know and it shall be done.

The idea of a Chat room (either directly on the site via a java applet or IRC channel) has been discussed in the past.
It was concluded that important information could be lost. Meaning it would be talked on live in the chat, but would never appear as posts inside the forum, hence some people could possibly miss out on some good info. But yeah, can't stop anyone from joining a public IRC server... -------------------- Loneferret

instead of a constant chat room have one that is only open for certain times that are posted on a hard schedule and make each "chat hour" on a cetain subject i.e. bbp/cc or techniques and have a moderator cut and paste the chat in a seperate forum of "weekly minutes"
This could be good too for guys like August or Josh Carlton or any guest speaker to talk about techniques or products. Also enable audio and webcams dunno my thoughts cuz if someone really wants to learn this art they'll make time to sit in front of the puter......just like any online schooling |

I wasn't really thinking of it being an educational tool, more along the lines of somewhere for members to talk shit in real time. No matter ....
