Guidelines for Giving Feedback
Guidelines for Giving FeedbackPlease consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:
Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?
Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?
Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?
Color Harmony: Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?
Placement/Size: Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?
Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?
Feedback: What areas could be improved?

lets see whos paying attention...
did this today for my wednesday guy... still moving so im tattooing all i can before i go... couple shakes a couple holidays... after 2 1/2 hours he asked me to stop... 2nd session will be for sculpting and filling he was stoked as is... chuck

I see a few wobbly lines, but the fill looks pretty good.
Doing parrallel lines are a real bastard to do, rather you than me doing it.....lol Are you gunna put the street names in at a later stage? |

Here is my opnion and sticking to the feedback guidelines so I dont get roasted..
When the flash idea for this was posted i cringed... i dont like the design one bit.. i think something alot better could have been thought of and would still have the same meaning. The line work seems ok but a few errors that can be fixed up im sure.. The fill looks solid but id like to see how this heals.. Placement i dont agree with and a print out of a google map whacked on is not a tattoo to me.. I would have taken the name of his street/suburb etc and tried to do something with that, maybe have the streets coming from the name or some other kind of reference... im glad he's happy but i think that if it wasnt rushed into, something better could come of it.. just my honest opinion.. i read when people were saying for you to slow down and draw more, this emphasises it... take a break from inking chuck... it'll help in the long run... *said with best intentions* Blas -------------------- ~*~ Tattoos hurt! I don't mean to come across harsh on this, but you've seemed to take a few steps backwards on this one fella.
Every street should be the same weight & have crisp edges, they dont. The ends of the lines should be squared off, some look rounded off. There are areas that are already cluttered & adding the street names will only make it worse (maybe adding 1 or 2 to the larger streets would work). This concept needed it's time taken over the application & it appears that maybe you rushed it a bit. Holidays you can sort out, they're never a problem. This is a poor concept for a tattoo (not your fault, it's what he wanted) executed badly. Even if you do resculpt the lines I can't see you improving it that much. I know you plan on doing another session, but so far this just isnt doing it for me in design, technique, anything. There are a TON of clients who will be stoked with a ghetto tattoo just because its a tattoo they are excited about. Im not saying your work is ghetto man, so dont get me wring, but making the client happy is not enough. Its wise to listen to the input of our peers man, and strive to be a great artist. Not just a guy who does the tattoos people ask him for. |

Chuck,
I gotta say that this has got to be one of the dumbest ideas for a tattoo EVER. And especially to be on someone's back(prime real estate). But, this is not your fault as this guy wanted this tat and wanted it on his back....fine. Did you think it was a good idea for a tat? Now, the tat itself is COMPLETELY inconsistent. You have lines of varying thicknesses, some blowouts, etc, etc...... I'm not sure you can fix this at all. You said in your post that you're "tattooing all I can before I go".......maybe you're rushing and not thinking things thru?? I don't like this one AT ALL. -------------------- Tattooing.................what else is there?

i seem to remember a thread here a while back where someone commented that
YOU HAVE TO BE SURE WHAT THE TATTOO MEANS TO THE PERSON.... you all may think its stupid but not knowing what it means to him makes a difference... this is a small town community...he is from there...born and raised...this actually meant something to him SO ITS NOT STUPID...some areas definitely need to be fixed and will be...there will be no street names... this tattoo was meant for anyone who knows the area will know what it means... back to the old saying for those of us who know...no explanation needed... if i have to explain you wouldnt understand... i thought it was a stupid idea until he explained it to me... and it was still hard for me to understand,... not gonna try to justify anything i do to anyone... simply put...andrew i never said you were a prick or anything like that... i just feel everyone should understand the idea behind this the community is a tight knit area...everyone who saw this yesterday knew exactly what it was without having to be told... they were from the area...i met a couple of his friends who are not from the area and they had no idea what it was or meant... that was the outcome we were after... as for the line weights...yeah some are smaller... this tattoo is no different than having the outline of the state you are from tattooed on the side of your neck...tattoos are an expression of ones self... he wanted to express himself in this manner...and he was happy with the outcome... the cool part about this guy is i always show him the threads after i post them and he is never once disappointed with what i have done for him... oh and just to clarify...he is a big guy...bout 6 1 240...so yeah i want the work to be what he wants ...he is happy ...i am happy... there will be a second session...those lines at the top are not blowouts... they are where i tried to sculpt a couple lines...used the wrong set up...my mistake.,... of course there are a few mistakes...but again the cool part is its a map and doesnt have to be perfect im done justifying what i do...maybe you should all take this advice.... LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMER...ask him what it means and why....if you dont wanna do it then dont.... rag on my work all ya want but dont ask me to justify the decisions the client makes... without knowing the whole story to form an opinion.... peace and love bruthas and sistas... chuck -------------------- |

I hear a lot of "client" and "customer" bandied about in your post. PLEASE tell me you aren't doing paid tattoo's? After looking at this and a couple of your other pieces, the only clients or customers you should have is long, dead pork my friend. I mean, let's be realistic about this. Crawl first, then walk. Not "make as much cash as I can before moving because who knows when I will get another chance to ink someone for money" type thinking ............
