> Guidelines for Giving Feedback

Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:

Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?

Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?

Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?

Color Harmony:
Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?

Placement/Size:
Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?

Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?

Feedback: What areas could be improved?

This logo i did on a bud's arm looked OK and filled good after it was done. Stretched skin very well to check for holidays too. Now it's healing and the holidays are showing up. How can you fill in better? I stretch the skin and seem to go in evenly. Need to pack it in better the first time. I don't have a pic of the healing work but it has skin spots all over the place.fook! any pointers? Thanks guys!

I don't want any comments on the wonky lines thank you in advance. I know there's a few lines that could have been steadier.

Yes that's right after the needling. I saw the guy yesterday briefly but couldn't get a pic. Basically, the Kuro Sumi went it but not as well as I'd like. I realize that it's better to go lighter when filling with solid black rather than going hard and getting scars. Sometimes my filling stays packed in awesome and sometimes holidays show up. Maybe it's the area of the body where the skin doesn't hold the ink as well. I used a 5rl to line and I used an 8rs to fill it in with. Kuro Sumi Lining ink.

Ya i think maybe machine tuning or technique. I asked if it was right after the tattoo was done because the holidays are there in the pic so you didnt get it packed completely. So try a few things different maybe you went to fast and didnt get enough in. Take youre time and experiment with set up on youre machine and use the right needle config for the job like caine said. I had a couple times that that happened to me and i found out that my machine was running a little to fast and hard for me to get a solid pack with out over working. I played around with the machine and tuned it and did a few test runs and just like that it went away.

you gotta use mags I can see from the pic the skin looks hammered. Slower is faster with dark fills like black and reds.

Try keepin you tip topped up with ink every few seconds as it looks as though its got watered down a little with body fluids, and change your ink holders with fresh ink in them, as your dippin needles in will water the black down, this is just a suggesten mind you, they may be other things like machine setup, but just thought id throw this out there for ya to try smile.gif

keep an ink mixer close by when doing black fill... after a while the pigment seperates and it is less concentrated near the top of the ink cap..mix it up every 10/15mins..

All great comments and suggestions, but it seems to me that it just seems as though you ran your machine to fast. What machine are you using to do your black with. What is the setup of your color packer, or did you use your shading machine? First slow down on packing in color, "Slower is Faster"

try turning up the voltage on your machine, i used to make the mistake of trying to dig the ink in, dont. i also agree with everyone that slower is faster, make sure the fill is solid before you move on and also if you go fast and have to go back multiple times it just chews the skin up which causes it to heal like shit.

i use heaps of smaller cups #9 ones for doing solid black as Noz and justwhatiwanted said the pigment becomes less concentrated with the mixture of blood and plazma, so with smaller cups once you notice that move on to a fresh cup,

All excellent suggestions. I used a flat on the top part where it looks the less packed anywhere.

I was reading about pulling the needles (of flats)apart slightly with pliers. In the Tattoo Bible they mention this. I am going to start experimenting with mags more. Thanks for the comments everyone. I am working on shading my koi fish now]. peace Out.izzy

Oh Ya, ...My order from painful pleasures came today! gots me some of that 'One' ink. NICE deep/flat black. I like it alot. I used it to line today and it came out NICE and deep and true black. Going to try filling and shading now. Also got the Mom's millenium 14 Ink nasic colour set. Lovely Purples!

if you doing anything like that with the needles make sure the tool is sterile, such as thoes pliers, and a better way to spread the needles is to put the needles flat on a plane of glass and put a blade inbetween the needles pushing it upward towards the solder, not recomended if you dont have an autoclave thoe, the needles would have to be autoclaved afterwards.

looks like you was coloring in lines not small overlapping circles. try slow your hand down alot and tight overlapping circles. i had the same prob but managed to get great solid fill with a round shader by just slowing my hand down alot and really taking my time

Im not sure what you guys think but unless he gets his machine setup better going even slower might make it worse. In the pic the skin looks really hammered in some spots is that because you went over them a bunch of times or is it because youre machine is running to fast and hard? So if youre machine is running to hard and fast i would think going slower is going to cause the skin to get chewed up still. So slower is only the answer if you are running the machine at the right speed and power imo. What do you guys think?

word.

I am constantly fucking with my machines trying to get them running. We just got a new colour packer from Andy and she has the fire of Hell in her coils. Man it has balls!. I got it to run on a pretty low setting after fookin' with it.

Ya , I read about using a knife to spread the needles. Using mags would probably be a better idea than fuckin' with Flats 'n shit. Thanks again guys and gals. smile.gif
