This site is not a substitute for a professional apprenticeship with a licensed tattoo studio. Nor is this site a definitive source for learning the art or trade of tattooing. An apprenticeship is the ONLY universally accepted way to learn proper safety practices and sound technique.
While we welcome members of all levels, we STRONGLY advocate staying away from skin until you've received formal training from someone who works in the field. Hell, even hair stylists must complete over a year of courses, pass a state health board exam, and apprentice under a professional studio before earning a chair.
The trade of tattooing has a rich history and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. If you respect the art, please show your respects by learning the right way.

angles : 60/ line 45/ color/shade
if your machine bogs down when you hit the skin, turn the volts up a little (search for " the rule of thumb method " ) for tuning advice.. 7rl = 7 needles in a tight cluster a medium size liner.you need a shader needle to shade/color Liners and Shaders.. You NEED seperate machines, set up differently : different springs, A-Bars, Coils, Caps.. Different contact gap , different contact angle... they can run from under 5 volts up to over 10 volts, it just depends on the machine... if its an ebay kit more than likely over 10V Hope this helps... oh and soak your pigskin in warm water for 10mins and wipe it dry.. ALSO .. read more on here, all the answers you need are to be found. Peace if any of the above info is incorrect, can someone put it right.. -------------------- Nosferatu1812@yahoo.com

the fresher you can get the skin, the easier it will "glide" into the skin... other than that agree 100% with noz....

Im not sure what you mean by 60 for lining. But you should be holding the machine straight when lining. So when you are lining the machine will be at a 90 degree angle to the line or basically to the surface of the skin. I have heard many people say that you can have an angle with the liner as long as it is not to much and inline with the line you are putting down. So make sure you are not leaning away from the path of the line it will cause blow outs.

Why would you get blowouts from changing you angle? don't they occur when you change depth?

quick note on the pig skin, you can soak it in warm water before you hit it, softens the skin makes it easy going. Not as tough.
