Please consider the following when giving feedback on a member's tattoo:
Line work: Does the artist seem to have grasped the technique of applying smooth, consistent lines? Do the lines flow with no shakes, skips or blow-outs?
Fill: Are all color and black areas a consistent color?
Shading: Does the tattoo show smooth gradients and transition effectively from light to dark?
Color Harmony: Does the tattoo have colors that compliment each other?
Placement/Size: Does the tattoo seem to be the right size for the area chosen? Is it centered and lined up with any other work? Does it go with the flow of the body?
Design: How well does the overall design work? Does it have sound composition? Does it feel well thought out?
Feedback: What areas could be improved?

Had a couple consultations not show so I decided to fire up the machines and ink up one of my co workers. He wanted his son's name in script. It says Gabriel which is also some angel's name or something so I threw in some clouds for an "angel'ish effect"? I think it came out fairly decent even though it looks like shit in the picture. Everything I do looks like crap on camera though so oh well. Hopefully one day I can actually be satisfied with one of my tattoos.
Well tear into it..... ![]()

Oh yeah there's white in the script it just doesn't show well in the pic. I spent some time packing it in though so hopefully it shows up.

Looks well applied.. a couple wonky lines.. I don't like how the design was laid out.. background is too busy.. hard to read the lettering..

Yeah the shading looks overpowering in this pic. The lettering sticks out a little better in person. Shading should heal fairly light so I'll just have to wait till it heals. line work needs more but I told him we'll finish it later.

Looks cool, but that type of script will almost always look better colored in solid, im not sure how it would look solid with that dark shading though. I wanna see it when it heals up |

What kind of needle did you use ? 5 or 7 liner ? 7 tight. too much detail/flourish in the lettering , good execution though I would say that's a matter of opinion. He said he wanted a lot of the loopy/swirly things so he got em. Some people just have a hard time reading cursive. As far as execution I'm not thrilled with it. I'll cut myself a little slack since large curvy script like this can be a little tricky. Overall I think it will be fairly solid after the second session. |

yea the background is... what? shitty? Speak up like you got a pair Bad Boy. It should be obvious he wanted it all black and grey. I will take some healed pics of the background before I tighten up the linework. I doubt the background will be an issue after it heals.

I would def thicken the script out a bit once it heals. with such a background the script is lost.

[/quote] No question that it's a matter of opinion, if he got what he wanted, great. I don't think I have a problem distinguishing cursive lettering, but there's something to be said for goin overboard, no disrespect intended, just my opinion, like you said. A far as technique, I thought the lines were pretty clean. (Also just my opinion.) Yeah I'm getting tired of black and grey it's all people want from me. Man, you too?! I really like the script! I've had a few requests to draw up some decorative(swirly) script also. Came out good. Yeah, and for the shading in the backround, probably the one time you could have used one light greywash color, it's a little dark. Or, you could have faded it around the script instead of shading right up to it. But, it will look alot better in about 5 days, depending... |

I don't know why everyone is tripping on the background so much. Saw it again last night and it's looking fine. The background is fading nicely while the line work is still nice and black like I knew it would be. I'll take a healed pic here in a couple more days.
