Stencil Mike describes his stencil application techniques and offers a HUGE plug for stencil stuff. 6. Set-Up: Machines, Ink, Needles & More Mainly talks about Neuma machines. Discusses his preferred ink brands and colours he uses, skin tone palettes and needle types. 7. Applying Colour Theory To Realistic Tattooing Everything you need to know about colour and using the colour wheel to select background colours, complimentary colours etc 8. Creativity Using your creativity to make designs from reference and your head. 9. Technique When to line, when not to line.... Starting points, highlights, Needle techniques, skintone, palette and colour richness, Keeping your colours flowing, value & complimentary colours, light source, rotated lines, hair, cover ups, monochromatic tattoo, size location and overlaps, a recurring observation, what's the rush? 10. It hasn't got the detailed info that Guy's book has. One thing I was hoping for in this book was diagrams and step by step pics, which there is a couple but no explanations to go with them. So in a nutshell, not as descriptive (or as good) as Reinventing The Tattoo.

how in depth does it go as far as working with a neuma setup? does it cover the aspects of how to use them differently for linework and shading? I haven't seen anyone out there really explain how they work with neumas as of yet...

No he doesn't supply any information on the machine's use, just talks about their advantages, why he prefers them over electric machines and advises which compressors to go for. No real helpful information on techniques or anything like that unfortunately.

just got my copy of this in today... ill share my thoughts once I have a chance to go through it more thoroughly but the presentation is AWESOME. this is a beautiful book.. others out there should take a cue from devries as far as presentation and publication goes, it is very nice.
I got it through joker tattoo cause their shipping is free if your order is over a hundred bucks... otherwise I would have ordered from the man himself.. just a heads up on those that want to save some money if you decide to get this one. |
